END OF THE LINE

In 1995, a campaign was organised to save the sleeper train which ran between Fort William and London. George Wyllie volunteered to create a locomotive to hang over the edge of the pier at the end of the line. It was designed to illustrate the idea that remote communities were very vulnerable if they lost public transport. The image was reproduced around the world. Wyllie had come up with the idea and created it within a week, and with no budget.

The campaign was a success and the sleeper train is still runs today.
