Sticks and stones were gathered from each of the 26 counties in the Republic of Ireland, as well as from the 6 counties of Northern Ireland, making 32 spires in all, and leading to the installation being named, 32 Spires for Hibernia.

The name Hibernia is the classical name for the island of Ireland, including both north and south, and comes from Ancient Greek records.
