THE LAND BORDER

Having described his own time as a customs officer working along the land border in the 1950a as a time of playing 'cowboys and Indians with smugglers', on his return, some forty years later he described the concrete barriers which had been created as 'absurd'. A word he had also used in describing the Berlin Wall in 1988 when he had installed his Berlin Burd there.
