THE LAND BORDER

One part of the land border between the south and the north of Ireland, where concrete barriers had been erected across rural roads, making it more difficult to cross the border, and, at the same time, making it very inconvenient for local farmers who may have had to access land by crossing the border.

George Wyllie had worked a customs officer on the Irish land border in the 1950s, before the start of the modern 'troubles' but with tensions rising, he returned to Scotland to settle and raise his daughters in Gourock.
