Back to The George Wyllie Education Initiative in Schools

Pupils in S4, Art & Design in Rosshall Academy, Glasgow created a big boat to be put on display at the exhibition, and pupils in S2 and S3 Art & Design classes created a whole flotilla of boats to be launched in the Last Launch.

Following that, we visited the S2 classes to introduce pupils to the wider work of George Wyllie, talking to them about his boats, trains and 'burds' and looking at Stones of Scotland, 32 Spires for Hibernia and The Difference of Hiroshima.

Jan Patience, journalist and Chair of Friends of George Wyllie spoke about three pieces which she particularly likes and the pupils were encouraged to use the archive of images to identify their own favourite pieces.

They went on to make their own 'burd' scul?tures which went on display at the Mitchell.
