The Why?s Man

"My art is place specific and people specific." George Wyllie

Back to The Why?sMan

George Wyllie played and wrote music, even when he was young. Sheet music and lyrics with chords exist in the archive, from when he was about 18 years old, and even then he was sending his music to publishers. He played the ukulele and some of his music was inspired by his artwork, including The Paper Boat Song, played and sung here by George Wyllie.

The piece has also been arranged by pupils at John Paul Academy, Glasgow, who play it here, giving it a contemporary take, and for piano, by Suzanne Houston.

Classes looking at George Wyllie's work are also now working on their own compositions inspired by his artwork and those compositions will also be added to this page.
