"My art is place specific and people specific." George Wyllie

GEORGE WYLLIE IN 140 WORDS...
Scotland is a richer place because of George Wyllie. He was an advocate for all things Scottish. His art was deeply rooted in Scotland and drew on real experiences. His work was about the people and for the people. Although a late starter in making a career of his art, George went on to achieve significant critical acclaim and international recognition, strongly showing that it really is never too late to follow our dreams and ambitions. I am pleased his work is being celebrated in this Year of Creative Scotland. As an artist George always sought to question and challenge. I will always remember his Paper Boat and Straw Locomotive.
