THE WORK OF GEORGE WYLLIE

George Wyllie, MBE

George Wyllie MBE (born 1921) was a Scottish Artist and Scul?tor, who worked in regenerative, performance and public Art. He also worked in Theatre, Writing, Installations, Film and was a frequent contributor to journals. He lived and worked in Gourock, Renfrewshire, Scotland. He exhibited in the UK, Europe, India, and the US. Many of his monumental Scul?tures are permanently installed in urban settings around the world.

He is best known for 'The Straw Locomotive', 'The Paper Boat', 'A Day Down a Goldmine','Equilibrium of Spires' and 'The Cosmic Voyage'. He was awarded the MBE in 2005. There is never a guarantee within Wyllie's work, but only a question, notably found in the centre of all things. Air Stone & Equilibrium. The balance of understanding.
