The Why?s Man

"My art is place specific and people specific." George Wyllie

Back to Art... out of the gallery

(Kelvingrove, Glasgow, 2006)

George Wyllie's love of puffers, steam-powered 'lorries of the sea' is obvious in the number of times they feature in his work,
sometimes made from metal...sometimes made from terracota...sometimes in drawings...sometimes in bits.

It is also evident in his references to Neil Munro's Tales of Para Handy, and in the work he did with schools in Argyll & Bute,
calling for a restoration of the transport links which had once been a daily part of life on Clydeside.
