MOTHERWELL TREE

(Motherwell, repositioned 2010)

The Motherwell Tree was first displayed at the Glasgow Garden Festival (1988).

The material and colour were designed to commemorate the local steelworks.

The scul?ture, with the wee birds perched on the branches - George Wyllie said they were having a union meeting -
is now in Merry Street Pedestrian Precinct, and the tree stumps around it form a meeting/sitting place.
Its restoration was part of the refurbishment of Motherwell town centre in 2010.
