Back to The Paper Boat

THE PAPER BOAT IN GLASGOW

On May 6th, 1989 the Paper Boat was launched by writer, Naomi Mitchison to the accompaniment of The Paper Boat Song. It was lifted into the river from the Finnieston Crane and Norman Orr, the industrial Chaplain for the Clyde said a prayer for the men who had once worked in the shipyards and for the loss of their jobs and creativity. It was the start of its voyages, raising questions about issues and people wherever it went.
