GLASGOW SPEUG

'Speug' is a Glasgow word for a sparrow.

George Wyllie created a huge 'speug' in 1995, working with youngsters from Glasgow's The Arts is Magic.

The frame of the speug had been decorated with coloured paper. The bird was about 5m high and 6m long.

It hung from the Finnieston Crane, and below it, his signature question mark, was also suspended. The Glasgow Speug was one of four scul?tures which Wyllie hung from the crane. It was also from there that the Straw Locomotive, and the Paper Boat and the Dear Green Helicopter were suspended.
